Aeronautical Society of South Africa

The Aeronautical Society of South Africa is a fully fledged division of the Royal Aeronautical Society (RaeS) with headquarters in London has evolved as the global focal point for the entire aerospace community.  The society encourages all individuals and companies associated with and having an interest in aerospace. The members of the society include aerospace professionals to enthusiastic amateurs, companies, organisations in the world. The society provides 50% of membership for engineering-related members and few other professions and interest groups including aviation law, aviation medicine, flight operations, ground operations, air traffic control, airport operations, aviation historians and enthusiasts. The grade of membership is depends on one’s qualification, experience, seniority etc., ranging from affiliate to fellow. Membership of the society provides a path to professional engineering registration. The society provides an opportunity to exploit in unique source of inspiration, to broaden knowledge, exchange ideas with specialists in respective field and to experience and influence the course of progress. It conducts lectures, conferences, symposia and training courses as well as offer awards, bursaries and medals for certain categories of personnel in recognition of their achievements. A part from this the society carries out accreditation of university and technicon courses on behalf of the Engineering Council of South Africa (ECSA).
