American Association for the History of Medicine

This association had its origins in a small meeting held in Washington, DC, on May 5, 1925. Doctors met organized the American Society of International Section for the History of Medicine and decided to meet annually. At the meeting in 1927, historical papers were presented for the first time.

The AAHM has sought to encourage scholarship and teaching the history of medicine in a variability of means. Since 1940 he has actively encouraged the establishment of constituent societies. A number of other companies, more specialized meet once a year with the AAHM. The largest is the circle Sigerist (established in 1990), which encourages the historical focus on issues of class, race or sex or the use of Marxist, feminist or critical methodologies related.
