American Association of Motor Vehicle Administrators

The American Association of Motor Vehicle Administrators (AAMVA) was founded on 1933. This association is nonprofit organization, tax-exempt and developing model programs in motor vehicle administration, highway safety and law enforcement. AAMVA officials in the United States and Canada administer and enforce motor vehicle laws. This association serves liaison with other levels of government and the private sector and the programs encourage uniformity and reciprocity among the states and provinces. To provide good guidelines for public service they inclined continuously research activities and developments. The member of this organization includes businesses, associations and organizations which shares the association’s goals. AAMVA completely supports uniformity in highway safety. AAMVA provides informational resources and products for general public and their members. They provides access to sets of comparative data which collected from the jurisdictions by AAMVA and other highway safety organizations. AAMVA's Committees develops best practices and model legislation as a resource to motor vehicle and law enforcement officials. The board decisions executed by the AAMVA President and CEO with their staff after various meetings all over the year. AAMVA is committed to improving driver safety and uses the law "one driver, one record" driver's license concept. AAMVA and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) began the development of an examiner certification program in 1980 and Certified Driver Examiner (CDE) Program was approved and ready for jurisdictions to adopt in 1982. The International Driver Examiner Certification (IDEC) program was designed for growing responsibilities on driver licensing.
