American Association of Nutritional Consultants

In 1985, American Association of Nutritional Consultants was founded to assist nutritional professionals in achieving more recognition through board certification. The American Association of Nutritional Consultants is professional association combating public ignorance and adverse legislation. The members of this association are working continuously to enhance the prestige and professional status of all its members. AANC is devoted to preserving the right of unlicensed nutritional professionals to provide nutritional education to individuals to improve their overall health and wellbeing. We also seek to avoid legislation that would limit the number of health professionals, or hinder the education of consumers in the vast array of choices available for their healthcare. They conduct the Certification Program for nutritional consultants to maintain the service to Professional Members of AANC. Successful members are authorized to carry the initials C.N.C. after their names and are issued a special second certificate (in addition to their Membership Certificate) attesting to the fact they have met all of the certification requirements as determined by the Commission on Certification of AANC. The purpose of this program is to protect the health, safety, and welfare of the public by encouraging high standards and professional competence of persons practicing in the profession of nutritional counseling. It provides a designation (C.N.C.) which serves to inform the practitioner's clients and potential clients that the practitioner has met professional requirements in addition to, and beyond, normal academic studies and/or professional experience. Also, this association offers examination and certification, or association membership which requires 11 examinations and paid membership. The organization also offers an insurance program.
