On January 30, 1970 VADA opened enrollment to any franchised merchant of imported automobiles and changed its name to the American Imported Automobile Dealers Association (AIADA). AIADA serves as an promoter for these dealers before Congress, the White House, and federal agencies.

Today AIADA represents more than 10,000 international dealers and over 500,000 of their employees. Together, they have sold 8.3 million vehicles, resulting in a 59 percent share of the U.S. market.
