Asia Pacific Association of Forestry Research Institutions

Since 1991, the Forestry Research Support Program for Asia and the Pacific (FORSPA) has been satisfying the systems administration capacity. APAFRI, a follow-up of FORSPA, is a result of the desire of the nations in the region and the donor community to build up a more confident and feasible component to reinforce research networking. It was propelled throughout the meeting of the Heads of Forestry Research Organizations held in Bogor, 20-23 February 1995. The International Union of Forest Research Organizations (IUFRO) has perceived APAFRI as its Asia-Pacific section. APAFRI has been teaming up intimately with the IUFRO Special Program for Developing Countries (SPDC) in reinforcing research in the Asia-Pacific region, and APAFRI's Executive Director has been coopted as territorial organizer of IUFRO-SPDC. The Secretariat of the Association was at first based at the FAO Regional Office, Bangkok, Thailand. In year 2001, Secretariat was moved to Forest Research Institute Malaysia, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. The general assembly of FORSPA comprises of delegates of part foundations and will meet in any event once in three years. The General Assembly is in charge of drawing up the arrangement of the Association, looking into the system of work and the monetary allowance arranged by the Executive Committee, and additionally observing the advancement in the accomplishment of the Association's targets.
