Asian Society for Cardiovascular and Thoracic Surgery (ASCVTS)

ASCVTS was originally started in 1973 as the Asian Chapter of ISCVS, the International Society for Cardiovascular Surgery, which was been founded by Drs. DeBakey, Haimovici and other eminent cardiovascular surgeons. In 1992 ASCVS started between Korea, Taiwan and Japan. The first meeting was held in Fukuoka, Japan in 1993. In 2004 ASCVS become independent from ISCVS, because ISCVS become ISVS, the society for only vascular surgeons only. In 2008 ASCVS added the thoracic surgery part and became ASCVTS (The Asian Society for Cardiovascular and Thoracic Surgery). ASCVTS includes 30 countries with more than 1000 members. The ASCVTS was established in Fukuoka in 1993 and has developed as an academic society in Asia in the field of cardiovascular and thoracic surgery. Cardiovascular and thoracic surgeons engaged in the care of patients in Asia, and to cooperate with surgeons in other parts of the world through education and communication. This society will organize the conferences every year.

The objects of the Society shall be:

a) To promote the study of the art, science and practice of cardiovascular and thoracic surgery.

b) To facilitate the exchange of ideas in the field of cardiovascular and thoracic surgery through scientific meetings and by personal contact between cardiovascular and thoracic specialists.

The aim of the Society’s is to further the interests of all involved in cardiothoracic surgery. The Society for Cardiothoracic Surgery founded in 1934 and was initially devoted to the practice of thoracic surgery, which at that time was mostly for tuberculosis. The purpose of the Society In this country, thoracic surgery has traditionally been associated with cardiac surgery rather than general surgery and vascular surgery has been associated with general surgery, rather than cardiac.
