The German Society of Anaesthesiology and Exhaustive Care Medicine (Deutsche Gesellschaft für Anästhesiologie und lntensivmedizin, DGAI) was started in 1953, with the role "of uniting the efforts of German physicians in producing and emerging the grounds of anaesthesiology, concentrated care, backup medicine and pain healing, and to provide the highest possible average of care for the population in these grounds". The DGAI is the scientific society of anaesthesiology in Germany and therefore answerable for research and exercise in anaesthesia. The DGAI is member of the World Corporation international societies of anaesthesiology universal, and of the European Civilization of Anaesthesiology (ESA). The authorized journals of the DGAI are "Anästhesiologie & lntensivmedizin" and "Der Anaesthesist". The DGAI annually organizes the German Congress of Anaesthesia (DAC), the "Berlin Assembly of Anaesthesiology and Exhaustive Care Medicine" (HAI) and five regional congresses. Conferring to the centralized building of Germany, the DGAI is divided into 17 regional sections, meeting more than 13,500 members.
