Australian Music Therapy Association

The Australian Music Therapy Association (AMTA) was built up at the main music treatment gathering in Australia, held in Glebe, Sydney in 1975. The gathering was sorted out by Ruth Bright, and she had drafted a Constitution for AMTA, which was temporarily affirmed on Saturday August second 1975. It became effective at the second music treatment gathering one year later.

Preceding the foundation of AMTA various noteworthy occasions had laid the way for the advancement of music treatment in Australia. These occasions can be isolated into two periods – 1903-1950, and 1950-1975.  Amid this time numerous pioneers started music treatment in various parts of Australia, and in the mid-1970s arrangements were in progress to build up an expert association.
