The worldwide Osteoporosis basis (IOF) traces its roots to its predecessor groups: the European foundation for Osteoporosis (EFFO), created in 1987, and the worldwide Federation of Societies on Skeletal illnesses (IFSSD), established in 1995.
Recognizing the want for a single, global employer to carry collectively scientists, medical doctors, the patient society motion and corporate partners, the governing our bodies of EFFO and IFSSD agreed to merge to form the worldwide Osteoporosis foundation.
IOF was released in September 1998 at the EU Congress on Osteoporosis held in Berlin. The EFFO and IFSSD individuals comprised seventy four countrywide osteoporosis societies from forty six nations. EFFO’s president, Professor Pierre D. Delmas, and Mary Anderson, EFFO’s executive director, assumed the identical positions in IOF.
