Autism Society Philippines

In the year 1987 the society had its foundation from eleven mothers whose children were diagnosed with autism. Through many phases of treatments and conjoining with other such parents who had their children diagnosed with autism they founded the Foundation for Autistic Children and Adults of the Philippines or ACAP on March 8, 1989. Initial meetings of the foundation were held privately in houses with a handful of attendees. The group resourced benefits from the movie Rainman by Oscar award winner Dustin Hoffman. The society held its first general assembly in August 1990 and the first Autism Tri-sectoral conference during April 1991. The meetings aimed at devising methods of care for autism children and assembling parents in dire need of proper guidance for their autistic children. The foundation has been regularly holding meetings and conferences and also attended international level congresses to make things better and get a latest and greater updates on current developments in autism treatments, care and therapeutics. In 1999, it received a three year grant from Norwegian Agency for Development Cooperation for the organizational development purposes. Every year it organizes a networking meeting with the parents of autistic children to update their knowledge on autism care and treatments. Moreover it collaborates with other related societies and foundations to build an integrated joint approach for alleviating the autism sufferings.  The society also conducts workshops and awareness camps in different places of Philippines so as to spread its learnings over the entire region and bring for the best to the parents having autistic children. Also psychological counselling sessions are organized by the society conjointly with psychiatrists who help the care givers to mentally fight the situation and keep them mentally charged up. Today the society is known worldwide for its services and efforts towards autism children.
