British Medical Acupuncture Society

The British Medical Acupuncture Society is a registered charity established to encourage the use and scientific understanding of acupuncture within medicine for the public benefit. It seeks to enhance the education and training of suitably qualified practitioners, and to promote high standards of working practices in acupuncture. Members are regulated healthcare professionals who practice acupuncture within the scope of their professional practice. Members are regulated healthcare professionals who practice acupuncture within the scope of their professional practice.  Acupuncture in Medicine is the official journal of the BMAS. Members can access full content of the journal via the Members' Area of this website. Acupuncture training courses are run by the BMAS for healthcare professionals subject to statutory regulation. The BMAS was a founder member of the International Council of Medical Acupuncture and Related Techniques (ICMART). ICMART is an international non-profit organisation comprising of about 80 different associations and colleges of Medical Acupuncture around the world. Membership of the BMAS is open to most UK-based health professionals who are subject to statutory regulation. The list includes doctors, dentists, physiotherapists, nurses, midwives, health visitors, osteopaths, chiropractors, and podiatrists. UK-based veterinary surgeons are also welcomed as members, although the BMAS has a close working relationship with the ABVA (Association of British Veterinary Acupuncturist). These are the benefits of of BMAS Membership: The opportunity to belong to a fully multidisciplinary medical acupuncture society which accepts only regulated health professionals as Members, 6 copies per year of the journal Acupuncture in Medicine (published by the BMJ), Access to Points Resource. A series of on line video demonstrations of examination and needling techniques, Reduced registration fees at the twice-yearly Scientific Meetings and other BMAS meetings, Free access to the London Teaching clinic to observe patients being treated etc.
