British Medical Ultrasound Society

The British medical ultrasound society( BMUS) Historical Collection was established in 1984 to collect, document, preserve, exhibit and interpret artefacts and other material relating to diagnostic and therapeutic ultrasound in the UK. The current collection includes: Ultrasound related hardware e.g. small scanners, transducers, Images, films, video and audio tapes, Photographs of instruments and people, Manufacturer's documents, Personal accounts, letters and interviews, Originals of papers, Reviews. The collection is kept in Glasgow, with historical documents in the archives of the Mitchell Library in Glasgow and some hardware items on display at the Queen Mother's Hospital. Other hardware items are kept in storage at other sites in Glasgow. The British Medical Ultrasound Society is a multi-disciplinary body whose objectives are: The advancement of the science and technology of ultrasonics as applied to medicine, The maintenance of the highest standards in these fields, The advancement of education and research in these areas, and dissemination of the results, The provision of advice and information regarding ultrasound to the public at large. Membership of the society is drawn from a wide range of disciplines including medical and paramedical professions, physicists, engineers, nurses, midwives, technicians, general practitioners, vets and others with an interest in medical ultrasound both in the United Kingdom and overseas. The success of the Society stems to a great extent from its multi-disciplinary nature, its regular special topic meetings, its Annual Scientific meeting and its quarterly 'Journal'. These are the benefits of membership: Membership of a truly multi-disciplinary society fostering the exchange of information and ideas between its members, A copy of the quarterly 'Ultrasound' journal - the official journal of the British Medical Utlrasound Society - Ultrasound covers all aspects of medical ultrasound, from the theoretical through to clinical applications and their impact on both workforce and patients. The journal fulfils both an educational and a scientific research role and publishes a mixture of invited review articles, current research and descriptions of new techniques and equipment, Quarterly BMUS newsletter giving information about the Society's meetings, committees, activities and diary dates, Elgibility to apply to become a member of BMUS Council or a member of one of the Society's Committees etc.
