The BSDB began its life in 1948 as the London Embryologists' Club. The BSDB is bolstered by participation memberships, and by a liberal stipend from The Company of Biologists, who distribute Development, Journal of Cell Science, Journal of Experimental Biology and Biology Open (BiO), an Open Access diary that intends to encourage quick associate audit for available research.
