The Canadian Seed Trade Association is a spontaneous association composed of approximately 130 seed companies from across Canada. These member companies develop, produce and market high-quality seed for field crops and home gardens Founded in 1923, it represents a broad cross-section of Canadian businesses that are engaged in all aspects of seed research, production and marketing, both privately and universally.

Membership ranges from those who market garden seed and herbs to massive western grain and crop handlers, and from small family businesses to large multinational corporations. The seed products appear from about 50 principal crops, including: grains and oil seeds, special crops, forage and turf grasses, flowers, vegetables, fruits. Through a transparent system of policy and strategic development conducted by an elected Panel of Directors, annual and semi-annual sessions and standing committees of the membership. CSTA committees are accessible to all CSTA members, and much of the member guidance begins as committee business. CSTA represents its members with shareholders at the government and industry level.

In addition, CSTA fosters the development of foreign markets, and works with industry and associated organizations in Canada and abroad to address issues in the seed industry. CSTA member companies are constructing markets in many areas and the association helps these members by eliminating trade obstacles and handling systemic market access questions.
