Connecticut State Dental Association

The Connecticut State Dental Association is a state-wide, professional membership organization representing Connecticut licensed dentists and staff. CSDA members are committed to protecting the health and well-being of people of all ages.

The CSDA was established in 1864 to ensure that patients receive the highest quality of care from dental professionals. With a state-wide membership of approximately 2,500 members, the CSDA represents 70% of all licensed dentists in Connecticut.

The CSDA is the voice of Connecticut licensed dentist in the Legislature. It maintains a clear and consistent message that dentistry is health care that works. The CSDA supports legislation that protects the high quality of dental care that Connecticut residents receive.

The CSDA also sponsors state-wide public outreach programs that highlight the importance of good dental health for people of all ages.

The Connecticut State Dental Association supports the professional success of its members and assists them in providing optimal care to their patients. The CSDA: the trusted leader and voice for dental health care in Connecticut dedicated to the profession and the public.

The Connecticut State Dental Foundation (CSDF) was officially incorporated on September 1, 1991 under the guidance and direction of Dr. A. Howard McLaughlin. The CSDF provides charitable assistance for the dental community and works to improve oral health by supporting students through scholarships, supportive activities which increase access to care and subsidizing research and educational program. Twenty-five years later, the CSDF is still carrying out the mission formulated by Dr. McLaughlin and colleagues of the CSDA.

The endeavours of the CSDF are possible through the leadership and generosity of many individuals and corporations who have supported the Foundation over the years. We invite you to consider becoming a valued partner to improve the oral health of the many constituencies we serve through our scholarship and grant programs. The nature of the activities to be conducted, or the purposes to be promoted or carried out by the corporation, Connecticut State Dental Foundation, Inc. (The Foundation) are as follows:

(a)To devise and carry into effect programs for aiding, promoting, developing, and advancing education, research and study relating to the teaching, study and practice of dentistry and related fields or endeavour, including, but not limited to, the publication and dissemination of articles, the carrying on of seminars, training courses, and other educational activities.

(b)To receive and maintain a fund, or funds consisting of property both real and personal and to apply the whole or any part of the income therefrom, or principal thereof, to or for the use of individuals, organizations, foundations, or institutions exclusively for educational, scientific or the study, teaching, or practice of dentistry or allied professions.

(c)To make grants, loans, or in any other way authorized by law provide financial assistance for qualified students pursuing a course of study in dentistry, or in related fields, who are duly enrolled in accredited educational institutions, and to provide similar assistance to faculty and staff members of these same institutions for the purposes of maintaining and advancing the high level required by the citizens of this state.

(d)To encourage the free exchange of knowledge between The Connecticut State Dental Association, Inc., and the educational institutions located in this state and nation.

(e)To establish and maintain programs designed to encourage young men and women of the State of Connecticut to enter the practice of dentistry.

(f)To receive and maintain gifts of real or personal property, the use of which is restricted by the grantor, providing, however, the restrictions and uses to which the property may be put shall be consistent with the purposes of the Foundation.

Connecticut State Dental Association will be your resource for news and updates on continuing education and local issues happening which affect the dental professional community. This Association is made up of dedicated professionals who work voluntarily on your behalf, negotiating legislative issues and actively networking within the dental community to resolve the access of care issues and providing continuing education opportunities, while striving to improve the profession of Dental Assisting in Connecticut.

Membership is open to all dental assistants (working in all dental specialties), dental practice managers, dental lab technicians, dental assisting instructors and dental sales representatives. Our mission is to advance the careers of dental assistants and to promote the dental assisting profession in matters of education, legislation, credentialing, service and professional development, which will ultimately enhance the delivery of quality dental health care to the public."
