The NVVH functions as a coordinating and umbrella organization for associations working in the areas of hematology. The coordinating function promotes the rural position of Hematology regarding patient care, teaching and research, and avoids fragmentation of the Dutch hematology. There is close cooperation with the sub and sister societies, including through representation on the board of the NVVH and by organizing joint meetings.
The Dutch Society of Hematology founded in 1950, is the national organization of blood experts, approximately 500 physicians and biomedical scientists working in areas of patient care, research and education on diseases of the blood and the blood forming tissues.
