Governed by the Swiss law The European Federation of Sports Medicine Associations (EFSMA) is a not-for-profit association with its legal seat in Lausanne, Switzerland. The EFSMA is recognized by the International Federation of Sports Medicine (FIMS) which is home for four Continental Sport Medicine Associations and 117 National sport Medicine Association worldwide, collectively uniting about 125000 sports physicians from all its member countries globally.
EFSMA in collaboration with FIMS conduct various programs by supporting national and continental meetings; organising and hosting various Sports Medicine world congress annually ad biannually; conducting regular team physician development courses in all continents to promote modern research and development happening in the field; distributions of latest and reliable publications on important sports medicine related matters on a regular basis.
The specific objectives of EFSMA and FIMS are:
Having Sports Medicine recognised as a speciality within the EU and in all of European Countries and to preserve and improve the health and lifestyle of mankind through exercise and sports participation
Developing and harmonise a transparent education system in Modern Sports Medicine throughout Europe. Also to get Sports Medicine included in the basic curricula at all Educational Institutions and Medical schools throughout all European Countries.
To encourage and enhance the exchange of scientific data generated by various research organizations and to encourage and engage them in common research.
To increase the knowledge and understanding of the importance of sport trainings and physical activities for the whole European population and awareness of the principle and methods of sports medicines for treatment, preventions and rehabilitations.
Also to publish new research and scientific information in the field of Modern Sports Medicine and other related fields on a regular basis by conducting various conferences and workshops globally.
