The European Society for Cardiovascular Surgery (ESCVS) was founded May 31, 1951, in Turin, Italy, with statutes in Strasbourg, France, under the name "European Society for Cardiovascular Surgery." Rene Leriche was elected as president and R. dos Santosas as vice president, Arnulf as general secretary G. and R. Riveaux as treasurer. The founders and subscribers of these first statutes were 40 physicians representing 11 European countries. The first congress of the society was held in Strasbourg. Places of congress during these 21 years were 18 times in Europe and outside Europe in Philadelphia. Main aim of ESCVS is  to encourage the exchange of scientific and clinical knowledge among all professionals interested in the field of pathogenesis, diagnosis and treatment of heart and vascular diseases ;to study the relevant issues that affect patients with cardiac vascular diseases and devices; to facilitate collaborative research on the factors that lead to the development of cardiovascular and vascular disorders severe peripheral and  to promote education and career development in cardiac care, vascular surgery and endovascular. Each year the ESCVS organizes an International Congress to encourage the dissemination and discussion of the latest news and achievements in the field of cardiac, vascular and endovascular surgery in clinical and experimental research. Each year, there are an increasing number of participants; the last congress in Moscow, Russia, was visited by nearly a thousand professionals. The Journal of Cardiovascular Surgery, the official journal of the European Society of Cardiology and Endovascular Surgery, was founded in 1960 by H. Haimovichi and  E. Malan; it is now in its 52nd year of publication.
