The German Cancer Society is a non-profit organization with office located at Berlin, Germany. It is the successor organization of the "Comité für Krebssammelforschung", founded in 1900 - is the largest scientific-oncological society in Germany. It includes 24 working groups which comprises of 7500 individual scientific members .It has a vast organization covering 16 regional cancer societies and having 36 sponsors from research-based pharmaceutical industries, scientific publishers and health insurances. The German Cancer Society aims at providing cancer care on the basis of evidence-based medicine, interdisciplinarity and consequent quality standards. It is a self-financed society, the finances basically coming through membership fees, project-based funding, donations and income from quality management. The German Cancer Society purposes to improve cancer care in Germany & attempts patients a treatment that is of high quality principles at every stage of their disease. The society basically comprises of clinical experts & professional from all medical domains. It also comprises of basic researchers, medical technicians, nurses, psychologists, expert groups working in the field of cancer & oncology. The German Cancer Society (GCS) is the largest Expert Society of Oncology in Germany. Nearly 7000 oncologic experts, being active in clinical research and treatment or working as psych-oncologic therapists or in medical care are involved as members. A magazine named FORUM is published 6 times a year in which each issue is related to a particular cancer medicine. The GCS’s 16 regional cancer societies provide livelihood & support for cancer patients, their family members & friends. The German Cancer Congress (DKK) is the oldest and largest oncology congress in Germany. In 2014 it was organized for the first time as a joint event by the German Cancer Society and the German Cancer Aid. Traditionally, the Congress, which takes place every two years in Berlin, is followed by a one-day information event for patients.
