Hellenic Association of Orthopaedic Surgery and Traumatology

Until 2004 orthopaedics in Greece remained underneath the umbrella of the Hellenic Association of Orthopaedic Surgery & Traumatology (HAOST). But the fast development of arthroscopic surgery, and the special problems and concerns of sports-medicine, prompted the founding of the Hellenic (Greek) Association of Arthroscopy, Knee Surgery and Sports Injuries ‘George Noulis’ (HAA), in October 2004. “George Noulis” was added to the official name of the association, to honour the great Greek doctor who first described in his doctoral thesis, in 1875---what a century later became known as the “Lachman” test. The idea of HAA is to develop arthroscopy, knee surgery and sports medicine in Greece. To this end, programs of training and continuous medical education have been established, scientific relations and co-operations with other societies were developed and fellowships for young orthopaedic were issued. HAA is a young in arthroscopic surgery. New members are joining us every year, full of ideas, and expanding our community. We believe that a brilliant future awaits arthroscopy in Greece. Today, the society has almost 200 members, most of whom are also ESSKA members. A significant number of Greek surgeons attend the ESSKA congresses. Honorary Members of HAA are eminent - even world-renowned - orthopaedic surgeons, who bequeath their knowledge to our Association.
