Helmholtz Association

The Helmholtz Association of German analysis Centres was started in 1995 to formalise relationships between many noted independent research centres with established histories and reputations throughout the global research community. The Association distributes core funding from the German Federal Ministry of Education and analysis (BMBF) to its, now, 18 autonomous analysis centres and evaluates their effectiveness against the best international standards. Additionally to core funding the Association receives substantial third-party funding, primarily through open-competition grants such as the European Union’s “Horizon 2020”. The Association’s analysis centres have 250 subject-specific analysis institutes and 38,00000 staff, of that around 21,0000 are scientists and engineers, 7,500 are Doctor of Philosophy ‘students’ and 1,650 are in education. In 2014, roughly 7,500 foreign analysers came to Helmholtz research centres to work with us.
