Hydrocephalus Association

Since our first gathering in San Francisco, CA, in 1983 as initial support group to our national presence today as the top leading provider of information and private funding for research on hydrocephalus, the Hydrocephalus Association has significantly impacted the scientific communities and healthcare as well as the lives of individuals affected by the hydrocephalus. The high history of our association is what drives our moral values and mission today.

Hydrocephalus means a lifetime a condition in which fluid accumulates in the brain of uncertainty for the families and individuals who are challenge with a diagnosis or who are affected by the condition. Naturally, they want to learn more, to understand what the condition is, what treatments are available, and they want to know they’re not doing this on their own. To help, Hydrocephalus Association gathers together valuable resources and connects every single individuals to larger communities that can provide support and humanity.  By providing an common space for those dealing with hydrocephalus and online library, Hydrocephalus Association works to reduce uncertainty, advance the overall hydrocephalus community, and provide as much insight as possible into what remains an often challenging and confusing condition.

Today, no cure for hydrocephalus is present, and the primary treatment – the insertion of a shunt into the brain – was developed 50 years ago and suffers from the highest failure rates of surgery.  By paying attention and research funds, Hydrocephalus Association works toward the ultimate end: a final cure to hydrocephalus.  Little is known about the causes of hydrocephalus, but recent research offers hope that a cure is indeed possible.
