Icelandic Medical Association

The Medical Association is involved in various international cooperation through the membership of the Nordic, European and international associations of physicians.In this respect the LI safeguarded the interests of doctors, rights and safety of patients and thereby contribute to better and safer healthcare.

The purpose, procedure and policy:

  1. To promote the interests and honor of the Icelandic læknastéttar and increasing encounters and socioeconomic development of the members.
  2. Safeguarding the independence of the medical profession and the interests of members.
  3. To promote the education of physicians and encouraged to see that the work is controlled.
  4. Strengthening the cooperation of doctors of all, who looks for progress in health care.
  5. Participate in international cooperation doctors of common interest.
  6. To promote the improved health of the population and work on health policy issues.

 Annual General Meeting of the Icelandic Medical Association is the supreme authority of the Company and its policy making.The Icelandic Medical Association takes issues between annual meetings. The board is accountable to the General Meeting.The scope of work of the Board is to:

  • Safeguard the interests of the Icelandic medical profession, its members and individuals
  • Care of the implementation of the Annual General Meeting
  • Appear to the world as a representative of the company
  • Provide comments and appoint councils and committees, as provided for in the laws and regulations.
    Its purpose is:
