The mission of this organization is to work for endocrine surgery globally and also to provide a forum for exchange of views among the people who are involved in expanding the frontiers of endocrine surgery, rather than for the surgeon who periodically operates on the thyroid or adrenal gland. The International Association of Endocrine Surgeons (IAES) was originated from the name of Peter Heimann, Professor of Surgery, Bergen, Norway. International Association of Endocrine Surgeons was found in 1979 in San Francisco. The aims of the IAES were to provide "A forum for the exchange of views those who are involved in expanding the frontiers of endocrine surgery whether by clinical experience, laboratory investigation or in any other way: but not for the general surgeon who occasionally operates on a thyroid or adrenal gland."
The IAES, indeed, acomplish all the targets, and is proud to be placed in the Société Internationale de Chirurgie. The World Journal of Surgery regularly concerned to the contributions of the IAES. The IAES always conducts a plenary session at the SIC congress and lecture named as Peter Heimann on a prestigious occasion, which constitutes a tribute and reminder of our founder.
