This society was established in Salzburg in 1962 as a consequence of the amplification of the "Salzburger Kreis". Its establishment is primarily owed to Prof. Leopold Müller who went about as President of the Society till September 1966. In 2016 the Society has more than 8,000 individuals and 60 National Groups. The field of Rock Mechanics is taken to incorporate all studies in respect to the physical and mechanical conduct of rocks and shake masses and the uses of this information for the better comprehension of topographical procedures and in the fields of Rock Mechanics.
The primary targets and reasons for the Society are: to empower global cooperation and trade of thoughts and data between Rock Mechanics professionals; to empower educating, examination, and headway of information in Rock Mechanics.The current President for this association is Eda F. de Quadros. The Society sorted out its first Congress in Lisbon in September 1966, it having manifested the enthusiasm of the analysts from everywhere throughout the world in the exercises of the ISRM.
