Irish Orthopaedic Association

The Irish Orthopaedic Association is a non-profit organization established on 9th December 1950, Irish Orthopaedic Association developed from the Irish Orthopaedic Club. The Irish Orthopaedic Association  Orthopaedic surgery had not developed as a specialty at that time and the founding group were general surgeons with a particular interest in orthopaedics.  Membership was initially limited to fifteen members and meetings alternated between hospitals in Dublin and Belfast. 

The last meeting of Irish Orthopaedic Club was held on 14th November 1997 in Dublin.  The Irish Orthopaedic Association was founded the following year and had it's inaugural meeting on 12th November, 1988 in Musgrave Park Hospital, Belfast. The Association has expanded noticably over the past twenty years and continues in providing an All Ireland forum for clinical and scientific debate.
