Israeli Orthopedic Association

Association was founded in 1984 and is part of the IMA and runs Authority Scientific Council. It is a non-profitable organisation. Members of the Association and guests are invited to get professional updates current on various topics: conferences, meetings, lectures, news, and clinical guidelines. Its member’s Israeli orthopaedics has direct access to course materials and professional databases. Goals of IOA are to promote the profession and its development in Israel and abroad, which includes congresses and meetings of the IOA and its various sub organisations. There are currently 429 registered members in the IOA, they aspire to promote current education, and encourage professional and interpersonal cooperation among association members. Every year a three days congress will be conducted which results in reporting and learning about the updates and academic activity in Israel. Recently the Israeli Ministry of health issued operative instructions to prevent the retard of hip fracture more than 48 hours. These instructions are the fruit of years’ work of the IOA, which managed to convince the State Comptroller from influencing the government in the importance of the matter. The Israeli Orthopaedic Association published a Position Paper to the National Trauma Committee which recommended a comprehensive educational trauma program, and also demanded funding of 6 positions for educating orthopaedic traumatologists. The goal of raising a fresh and highly professional dedicated generation, to nurture and incorporate such important branches in daily orthopaedic work of each orthopaedic ward. The IOA has joined the EFFORT - European Federation of National Associations of Orthopaedics and Traumatology. In current years the IOA concentrating mainly on Hip fractures, orthopaedic trauma, and amelioration of the Orthopaedic education to the residents or registrars, including examination and validation process, and setting standard for the Orthopaedic residency. An independent educational system which has been established by the IOA dedicated not only to the general Orthopaedic and Orthopaedic trauma, but also for both stage A and B examinations.
