Korean Society of Applied Pharmacology

Korean Society of Applied Pharmacology (KSAP) was founded in 1992.

President - Young-Sook Kang

The field of Pharmacology includes drug properties and composition, molecular and cellular mechanisms, synthesis and drug design, organ/systems mechanisms, molecular diagnostics, therapy, interactions, chemical biology, toxicology, medical applications etc. The 2 main parts of pharmacology are pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics. Pharmacokinetics talks over the absorption and distribution of the drug and also their metabolism and excretion (ADME) of drugs from biological systems, and pharmacodynamics discusses the reactions of drugs with biological receptors. Pharmacology is a biomedical science that deals with the characterization, research and discovery of drugs and medicines. Applied Pharmacology is the field of developing new drugs. Drug development is the method of bringing new pharmaceutical products to the market. It comprises pre-clinical research on animals and microorganisms. Drug development must found the physicochemical properties, its chemical makeup, solubility, and stability. Manufacturers must improve the process they use to make the drug. Many features of drug development focus on adequate the drug licensing authorities’ regulatory requirements. These generally consist of a number of tests designed to control the major toxicities of a novel composition prior to first use in humans. It is a legal condition that an evaluation of major organ toxicity be performed, as well as the effects on other body parts that might be affected by the drug. The information gathered are submitted to regulatory authorities (US, FDA), as the Investigational New Drug application or IND. If IND is approved, development moves to clinical phase.

The Korean Society of Applied Pharmacology (KSAP) was founded to fill the necessity of times for the development of new drug and now in the Republic of Korea, it plays a leading role in pharmaceutical development. The conferences of the association contribute much to the creative economy by providing useful information for the development of new drug and pharmaceutical industry. The official journal of the KSAP, "Biomolecules and Therapeutics" is highly evaluated as international journal.
Currently the society is not only to raise the ability to a high level by devoting its research and technique, but also it has become one of the centres of Asia on new drug development.
