Laurentian University Engineering Student’s Society

Laurentian University Engineering Student’s Society (LUESS) was established in the year 1960. LUESS is a non-for-profit organization that represents the students in each of the engineering disciplines (mechanical, mining, chemical, and civil) of Laurentian University. It consists of one president and six vice presidents (finance, social, academic, communications, external and internal) who like to promote community within the engineering student body as well as encourage academics and team work. LUESS works with an aims to provide opportunities in support of an all-encompassing education for engineering students in Canada to turn out into unsurpassed professionals in their field. LUESS organizes numerous events throughout the year in order for students to balance studies with social activities. The events are great opportunities for the student body to get to know one another and for students to really enjoy their time at Laurentian. LUESS organizes various workshops for engineering students in order to gain extra skills or refreshers that are excellent for your professional development. LUESS is committed to the development of engineering students through enriching conferences. The conferences allow for students to gain a better understanding of the engineering profession by interacting with many recognized associations such as the Professional Engineers of Ontario, the Ontario Society of Professional Engineers, the Canadian Federation of Engineering Students, and the Engineering Student Societies Council of Ontario. Laurentian has engineering teams such as SAE Mini Baha and Lunabotics. LUESS strives to send students to various recognized engineering competitions in order to compete against students at other schools. Competitions are an excellent way of allowing students to obtain experience, learn, work as a team, and most importantly have fun. Laurentian Engineering offers a variety of competitive teams. LUESS acts in partnership with these competitive teams. LUESS is not sponsor to these organizations which include Voyageur Racing Team, Minning Games Team and the Ontario Engineering Competition (OEC). Thereafter, LUESS communicates with the faculty in order to keep you posted with news, course changes, professor changes, course cancellations, scholarships and grants, work study positions, off campus positions, etc.
