Louisiana Dietetic Association

The Louisiana Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics(LAND) is an affiliate of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics. This is a professional organization representing over 1000 dietetic nutrition experts throughout the state of Louisiana. The LAND’s sole function is to help in improving the health and lifestyles of all Louisianans. They help to promote good nutrition and better eating habits in several ways. Here are some of the many ways that the LAND is working to improve communities throughout Louisiana. This association works everyday in their daily practices throughout a board scope of many different nutritional areas to improve the health and well being of our clients. The members work with the media to spread their messages across the state we lobby the Louisiana legislature and U.S. Congress to improve, implement and/or create nutrition policies for the betterment of the citizens. They work with the school systems across their great state to help improve children’s health so they can be healthier live longer as the citizens of tomorrow. They help to sponsor events for National Nutrition Month every year throughout the state. They offer scholarships to recruit students into the dietetics profession. Their members often offer community workshops and presentations on numerous nutrition topics. Each year, the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics invites state affiliates to recognize award recipients in education and professional practice. The awards program of the Accreditation Council for Education in Nutrition and Dietetics (ACEND) this year includes the Outstanding Dietetics Student Awards. Additional affiliate awards include Recognized Young Dietitian of the Year, Recognized Dietetic Technician of the Year, Emerging Dietetic Leader and Outstanding Dietitian of the Year. Corporate and Distinguished Service Awards may be included as determined by each state affiliate. District Presidents and Dietetic Education Program Directors are asked to share award information and opportunities with members and students. Nominations must be submitted to LAND by dates indicated and include materials requested. This year the Outstanding Dietetics Educators Award will be handled by the Nutrition and Dietetic Educators and Preceptors. Award recipients for 2017 will be recognized at the LAND Annual Meeting in Baton Rouge, LA on March 6-7, 2017. Further recognition will come from the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics.
