Medical Association Of Malta

The Medical Association of Malta is a professional association for doctors in Malta. It is affiliated to the World Medical Association. It was founded, initially as the Medical Officers Union, in 1954 by Dr Vincent Tabone. Mr. Gordon Caruana Dingli is the president of the Council of the association for 2014/6. It organised a satellite meeting for the Commonwealth People’s Forum during the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting 2015 which was held in Malta in November 2015. Sir Michael Marmot spoke on social inequality. It opposes private sector involvement in the management of the Maltese health system. Aims and objectives of the association include to be the voice of the medical profession in healthcare issues at all levels. The main activities include: Professional representation in industrial relations, and ethical issues; MAM represents the profession in healthcare policy formulation and implementation; Representation in national legislative developments; Quality of the issues including manpower development and staffing, speciality structure developments; Negotiation with health insurance companies; Patient advocacy. Internationally its activity includes; Active participation in our international affiliations; Full member of: The World Medical Association (WMA), The Standing Committee of European Doctors (CP), The European Union of Medical Specialists (UEMS), The European Union of General Practitioners (UEMO), The Forum: WHO - European Federation of Medical Associations, The Permanent Working Group of European Junior Doctors (PWG).
