Nordic Urogynecological Association

Nordic Urogynecological Association (NUGA) was established in 1982 in Hotel Fjellhvil, Norway. There were four organizing members, one from each Nordic country: Finland, Anti Kauppila, Mogens Asmussen, Torkel Rud, Norway, Denmark and Sweden. According to original by-laws, NUGA should Found an Annual meeting in one of the Scandinavian countries and invite all interested candidates to perform. NUGA suddenly started to grow and almost explicitly after foundation NUGA applied for and was accepted as the first sub-speciality Organization in NFOG (Nordic federation of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists) which rendered the event as a potential one. It was then decided that every second year a meeting should be adhered only for researchers and every second year a meeting should be coordinated focused on information and education. For about 10 years the annual meeting have contained both educational and research activities in Urogynecology and the meetings were scheduled for 2 days. In general the meetings attract between 200-300 Urogynecologists and also the people interested in that particular area of work from the Scandinavian Countries. For the last 5 years meetings have been organized. In 1996, at Copenhagen, Denmark, 1997 at Oslo, Norway, 1998 in Helsinki, Finland and 1999 in Uppsala, Sweden. All subjects in urogynecology are atmospheric during these meetings which as mentioned initially, cover research activities like planned investigations and results of those that have been carried out. In addition there are discussions about how to perform diagnostic and therapeutic interventions. In the volume of Acta several articles appear that have been presented as oral consideration to the latest annual meetings of NUGA. The upcoming Nordic Urogynecology Association will be held on 27-29 April 2017 in Reykjavik, Iceland.
