North Eastern Weed Science Society (NEWSS)

The Northeastern Weed Science Society serves the Northeastern United States by bringing together those who are concerned with the knowledge of weeds and their control; cooperates with other scientific societies to promote research, education, and outreach activities; and publishes scientific and practical information of value concerning Weed Science and related fields. The North Eastern Weed science Society is hosting the second north Eastern plant, Pest, and Soils conference in 2017. The Society also conducts the collegiate Weed Science Contest whose purpose is to provide an educational experience from which students in Northeastern universities can broaden their applied skills in weed science. The contest provides an opportunity for weed science students to meet and talk with each other, be exposed to researchers from other universities and industry, and apply what they have learned. It is also hoped that the contest will increase the visibility of weed science and intensify the interest level of those participating in the discipline of weed science. The purposes of the North eastern weed Science Society are to serve Northeastern States in:

Bringing together those who are concerned with any phase of the knowledge of weeds and their control and providing for a meeting of these persons, promoting a better understanding of the problems and the progress among those concerned with research and education in weeds and their control, those who are concerned with production of herbicides, and those who use cultural practices and chemicals for weed control, publishing scientific and practical information of value concerning Weed Science and related fields, cooperating with other Weed Control and or Science Societies and the Weed Science Society of America. The Membership of the Society shall be open to Individuals and Organizations of all Nations interested in the objectives of the Society. There shall be two types of Membership: Active and Sustaining.
