NUS Sociology Society

NUS stand for National University of Singapore. Established in 1967 by a clique of passionate and idealistic freshmen, the NUS Sociology Society has been involved with Department of Sociology student life since then. The NUS Sociology Society represents the student body of the Department of Sociology. The committee members are elected at the beginning of each academic year during the Annual General Meeting. Having an Interest of the larger forces shaping society, the NUS Sociology Society has persistently sought to stay related to these shifting contexts. Though this has shaped the Society’s environment towards one which is ever changing and multi-faceted, the underlying desire to stay academically relevant and to pursue sociologically inspired causes have stayed unchanged, if not strengthened. More so, we believe that sociology does not study the world as it is, rather, it studies the world as it is not. It is by striving towards this world that is not, that will make our world a better place. Perhaps we are still as idealistic as ever! Nevertheless, it welcomes to find out more about and hopefully take part in various events, where they experiment with ideas and attempt to translate sociological thoughts into actions. This Society is now runs by the 48th Executive Committee, who were elected on 24 August 2015.
