Obesity Management Association

The OMA (Obesity Management Association) is a registered charity that was formed to monitor and regulate the UK Obesity Management sector. They work to ensure patient safety and care, while providing a voice for the doctors and clinic owners in the developing debate about the treatment of obesity. The OMA was established in 2003 to counter misunderstanding and wrongly held assumptions concerning the use of registered medication in the treatment of obesity. Since then, the OMA and its member clinics across the United Kingdom have come together to promote a responsible approach to deal obesity and to highlight the risks associated with purchasing drugs on the internet as well as the use of potentially unsafe herbal remedies. OMA’s approach is supported by encouraging patients to take personal responsibility for their condition while providing a cost effective dual approach, conjoining long lasting medical and behavioural solutions to obesity, instead of risky and costly surgery. Patients benefit from regular appointments to help them to make the behavioural and lifestyle adjustments needed to raise long term change. OMA is a self- regulating, specialized association for Doctors, private clinics, weight management clinicians and those involved in the provision of weight management solutions. The aims of OMA are (i) to monitor and regulate best clinical practice in the Obesity Management Private Clinic sector (ii) to provide Patients and Members of the Public with correct information on obesity and the full range of treatments available (iii) to actively engage in the education and research on the subject of obesity (iv) to interact with the National Health Service, the Medicines Control Agency, Government, The European Union and others to meet the needs of patients. Work with other professional members that are involved in the treatment of obesity OMA is the ethical voice of the Obesity Management Private Clinic sector. OMA is regulated by a board of trustees whose members are Doctors, members of the public and private clinic owners. In addition to the Management Board there are 5 other committees, they are Ethics and Statutory, Membership, Finance, Education, Communication.
