EOS is a scientific society that was founded on December 20, 1902. The society aims at proper management for the ophthalmological disorders in Egypt. This target could be achieved through a quality-controlled, high-standard ophthalmic practice, Global communication, Community orientation with ophthalmic problems. The society formally presents the recipients of the following awards during the annual general assembly. The Ophthalmological Golden Medal acknowledges the continuing services of a highly distinguished ophthalmologist that have contributed to the advancement of ophthalmology, blindness prevention, and the society activities. The medal is given once during life; however, one or more medals can be presented at each meeting. The recipient of the medal is promoted by the society council, ophthalmology department in the Egyptian universities, research institutes, or ministry of health.
