Preventive Cardiovascular Nurses Association

Formerly known as Lipid Nurse Task Force(LNTF), the PCNA had its foundation in 1992 by a small group of California based nurses who were concerned with the gap in education of the nurses to specialize on lipid disorders.  Today PCNA is  one of the best nursing associations that is concerned with prevention of cardiovascular diseases through risk assessment, lifestyle change motivations and guiding the diseased ones to obtain the best treatment outcomes. Presently the association is large as having 25,000 nurses under its affiliation who are playing a key role in practice, research and policy initiatives to facilitate reduction in cardiovascular risks and disease management. The PCNA- a non-profit professional membership organization- has its headquarters in Madison, Winconsin. The association has over 30 chapters across the United States and Canada. For the last two decades the PCNA has brought forward some cutting edge advancements in research towards cardio vascular disease risk assessment  through its  Annual Symposium. The 21st Annual Symposium held at  Anaheim Marriott in Anaheim, CA was really a remarkable one with renowned speakers, exhibitions and poster presentations. The symposium also had a Pre-conference session on Pharmacology with the theme of  advanced practices in nursing care for cardiology and primary care. Atleast half of the main symposium attendees were found to be attending this preconference.  PCNA has continued to present the tradition of upgradation with latest advancements through their 22nd Annual Symposium at Orlando, Florida during April, 2016. Journal of Cardiovascular Nursing(JCN) is the official journal of PCNA. It is published on  bi-monthly basis with the print version and online published by Lippincott Williams and Wilkins, Inc. It has an impact factor of 2.05 making it fifth most cited nursing journal.
