The inaugural National Conference on Pre-packaging in New York the PMA was founded. Paul B. Dickman led the new organization as its President. The association was then called the Produce Prepackaging Association. It was formed to bring a revolution in the production industry through facilitating member networking and educational opportunities. Inspiration from the leadership and a passion for excellence has helped PMA to lead onto success from its non-significant originations in 1949 to progress onto a limitless potential in the 21st century. Through providing apt business solutions for strengthening and lead the global production community, PMA has been able to set the standard for quality events in the form of annual Fresh Summit International Convention & Exposition. It still continues to revolutionize one of the world's most vibrant industries. After 60 years of inception, the association has demonstrated its undaunted dedication towards the members of PMA. It has set forth a commitment of endurance to the people who comprise this remarkable industry. With an experience of more than 50 years, PMA boasts of offering marketplace solutions that cultivate success in present and future. PMA has created three operating divisions for addressing increased member demands for services. The retailer, producer and distributor division solidifies PMA's reputation as a marketplace-oriented association offering effective industry solutions. PMA has joined hand with United Fresh Fruit & Vegetable Association to establish the Center for Produce Quality. PMA has set a new attendance record of over 18,000 delegates at the Fresh Summit International Convention & Exposition in San Diego, California. PMA has provided $1 million funding to help establish the Center for Produce Safety at the Institution of Davis, California. PMA organized the first Fresh Connections Conference in Australia-New Zealand. The association has also partnered with Scholastic magazine and the Produce for Better Health Foundation to build a program for promoting eating fruits and vegetables. PMA has celebrated 60 years of relentless service to the industry while Fresh International Convention & Exposition marked its 60th anniversary.
