Scandinavian Society for Immunology

The scandinavian society for immunology (ssi) includes the national immunological societies of the 5 Nordic countries: Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway and Sweden. ssi has currently >>1000 members. Its official language is English. The main activities of ssi are to organize scientific meetings and courses, give travel grants to SSI meetings and support student exchange between laboratories, plus other educational activities. The visions and purposes of ssi are a) To be an attractive organization for all interested in immunology b) Foster Scandinavian immunologist and further develop Scandinavian immunology c) Visualize Scandinavian immunology and immunologists nationally and internationally d) To promote interaction between young and senior scientists e) To promote interaction between Scandinavian immunologists f) To be an interphase to the global national societies for immunology g) To be an interphase to other disciplines like rheumatology, transplantation, neurology... h) To provide knowledge on current and novel immune related drugs i) To attract students and young investigators into immunology research and to promote their development j) Help each other to improve and harmonize teaching of immunology in undergraduate education and PhD training k) To encourage educational courses and themed meetings in immunology l) Support development of immunology in developing countries.The objective of the Society shall be to advance knowledge of immunology within the Nordic countries. For this purpose the Society shall encourage the organization of scientific meetings, symposia or courses, and promote any activity deemed helpful to forward these objectives. The Society shall promote contacts and communication between persons, institutes and societies interested in immunology. The Society shall represent Nordic immunologists in the International Union of Immunological Societies (IUIS) and the European Federation of Immunological Societies (EFIS).
