Society for Mining, Metallurgy, and Exploration

The American Institute of Mining, Metallurgical, and Petroleum Engineers (AIME) is an expert body for mining and metallurgy, with more than 145,000 members. It was established in 1871 by 22 mining engineers in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania, United States, being one of the principal national designing social orders in the nation. Its contract is to "progress and scatter, through the projects of the Member Societies, learning of designing and expressions of the human experience and sciences required in the creation and utilization of minerals, metals, vitality sources and materials for the advantage of mankind." It is the first parent association of the Society for Mining, Metallurgy, and Exploration (SME), The Minerals, Metals and Materials Society (TMS), the Association for Iron and Steel Technology (AIST), and the Society of Petroleum Engineers. The association is presently situated in Dove Valley, Colorado.
