The Society of General/Family Practitioners was established on the 26 March 2000 as a coalition of the considerable number of associations that were included in the South African Medical Association (SAMA) solidarity process, and in addition IPAs. This was done keeping in mind the end goal to open up the GP voice in a unified manner, as there was concern with respect to the discontinuity of the GP calling which was debilitating arranging discussions, and also the assurance of GPs. The vision was then and still is to boost the voice of the GP inside and outside SAMA.
The Society of General/Family Practitioners is the biggest single national delegate body for general experts. It assumes a fundamental part in the social insurance field, particularly with connection to medico-political related matters.
