The Society of professional Engineers was recognized and time –privileged in the United Kingdom in 1969, to market the interests of proficient engineers altogether the main branches of Engineering. The main objective of the Society is to reinforce the standing of trained and full-fledged professional engineers in the absence within the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland of any legal protection for the title "Engineer". The origination members believed that this was necessary, as "Engineer" is utilized by anyone within the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, whether or not trained or toughened. This remains a priority for the Society. The Society created and maintains a Register of Engineers who will demonstrate information and competency in engineering and candidates who meets the Society's criteria for membership could use the designation "P.Eng".
