South-eastern Geological Society was established in 1944 and its head office is in Florida, USA.This society has members from Florida, Alabama and Georgia. Now more than 15% of its members reside outside of Florida.In 1944 SEGS was associated with American Association of Petroleum Geologists (AAPG) and The Gulf Coast Association of Geological Societies (GCAGS) welcomed SEGS as a member in 1954. In 1970 it had around 300 members from all around the world.Currently its members are from academia, mining industry, water resource departments, environmental and geological consultancy, and government geological organizations.The aim of the society is to improve understanding and knowledge of the Earth, to stimulate Earth science awareness and to promote ethical standards in research of Earth scientists for public benefit. This society united earth scientists and researchers with the motto of finding out the mysteries of planet earth and share various scientific findings.Field trips are organized by SEGS which includes active mining operations and most of its trips are published in guidebooks. SEGS is having its own publication series of field trip guidebooks. SEGS organizes leading scientific conferences, program and seminars to outreach professionals as well as general public. It also provides unprejudiced scientific information and proof to support policy-making.SEGS provides Florida’s geological community with a platform to meet other geologists and discuss research projects, technical papers and also enjoy wonderful excursions.
