The Tamil Nadu Orthopaedic Association

The association has already completed 45 years of existence and recently conducted the 47th annual conference at Chennai. It was formally been registered officially in February, 2002 and its constitution and byelaws, officially communicated to the registrar of society act.Tamil Nadu Orthopaedics has always been known for its academic brilliance and many senior Orthopaedic Surgeon have donated their might in the development of Orthopaedics both in the state and at Indian Orthopaedic Alliance level Several Continuing Medical Education programmes, live demonstration and workshop are being conducted every year. During the event, the association features the following orations best paper awards, TNOA Quiz and traveling fellowship. There are more than 10000 active life members whereas IOA is one of the largest professional organizations. It is an energetic organization which focuses on academics, research and social networking. From the time of its development in 1955, in these 60 years the organization has reached into a strong professional body with many diligence and regional committees. It is a persistently growing organization not only in terms of increasing associates but also in all other fronts like fellowships, CMEs, lecturers and meetings. In India, the annual event of the organization IOACON is one of the well-arranged and most sought after meetings has been conducted. The history, birth and development of the Indian Orthopaedic Association are very similar to that of the British Orthopaedic Association, probably due to our past association with the United Kingdom. In later years, the IOA has helped the establishment of Orthopaedic divisions in various parts of the country, and centres of postgraduate information. The practice of orthopaedic surgery have developed the growth of scientific technique and improved the practice in surgery. The memberships have also actively helped the formation of local Orthopaedic divisions in different parts of the country.
