Internal medicine’s one of the branch and the latest foucus is angiology or vascular medicine.  Angiology has been recognized as part of the field of internal medicine on the Herman Medical Conference in Cologne 1992. The German Society for Angiology or Vascular Medicine in short DGA is a non-profit organization. It was founded in 1972. This society deals in research, teaching and treatment with disease of the lymphatic vessels, arteries and veins. To reduce the burden of arterial and venous and lymphatic vascular disease through science and education including publication of guidelines is the mission of DGA. The Six commissions are included in DGA which are working on different issues within the field of angiology or vascular medicine. Like guidelines and quality assurance or teaching and promoting young researchers. In the scientific exchange of the members of the society the annual scientific congress plays a central role. The DGA is also working on public campaigns which include primary care physicians, specialists and stakeholders in health care about vascular diseases and disorders, the awareness campaigns on thrombosis and pulmonary embolism. DGA represents more than 1,000 vascular medicine professionals in Germany. Since 1998, the working sections intensify the scientific exchange in the DGA and report regularly. Since 2011 there is the section "Process optimization and quality management". And since 2014, the section is Care Research. The members of the six committees are represented in Executive Committee and Council, work on the central vascular medical topics. The Commission "guidelines and quality assurance" ranked as the certification of vascular centers a quality-assured treatment of vascular patients. There are two types of training for doctors in DGA. First one is the Intensive Angiology. This training course is for those doctors who are in specialist training in internal medicine and angiology. Second one is the Special angiological training or SAF. This training course is for that doctors who are in specialist training in internal medicine and angiology. Curricular training the entire angiological knowledge on latest knowledge in consideration of the evidence-based medicine is provided by SAF. The prizes of this society are Virchow Prize, Max Ratschow Prize, and CLI Price, promotion Price, Young Investigator Award (YIA) and Posters Price.
