The Japanese Medical Society of America

In the year 1973, by the efforts of about 100 Japanese physicians, The Japanese Medical Society of America was established in Greater New York area, USA. Eminent Urologist Dr. George Nagamatsu was the first President of this esteemed society.  The society JMSA is involved in many activities such as faculty appointments in in Japanese medical schools in the US. Till date the membership number stands at 200.

The scholarship program was initiated with member’s contribution to funds, but presently with sufficient contributions from various Japanese corporations and many other individuals, an approximate $100,000 scholarship is granted annually. The core theme revolving around this scholarship program is that recipients have to contribute towards the Japanese community or to the medical information exchange program between Japan and US.  Henceforth, there have been both Japanese and American recipients.  Many of the past scholarship recipients have holding leadership position within the JMSA.

Regarding to services related to lecture series and free medical consultation, JMSA is a very active community. This society also administers Japanese Community Outreach Program which is a program designed to provide funding to a variety of healthcare related NGOs that serves to the need of the Japanese Community. Application from all over US is accepted and 10 awards are granted after a rigorous process of scrutiny and selection. Many of the prestigious Japanese organization are involved for funding in this process.  JMSA is greatly aware of the Japanese nationals who have contributed tremendously towards the process of serving humanity through their achievements in the field of medical Science.  JMSA is readily available for going into collaboration with other alike minded societies in the world.
