The Marine Corps Aviation Association

The Marine Corps Aviation Association (MCAA) was chartered as a non-profit organization in 1972, the First Marine Aviation Force Veterans Association (FMAFVA). Originally, the FMAFVA bylaws stipulated that membership was limited to World War I Veterans. The FMAFVA later opened its membership to others and was renamed the Marine Corps Aviation Association. The FMAFVA inaugurated one of its most honored military aviation awards to date: The Alfred A, Cunningham Award, named in honor of the "Father of Marine Corps Aviation." The award was first presented in 1962 to Lieutenant Colonel John H. Glenn, Jr. MCAA has grown significantly since then and currently has 29 unit and individual awards. The awards are portioned equally between enlisted Marines and Marine officers. Various MCAA corporate members sponsor the awards. Historically, the Commandant of the Marine Corps, the Sergeant Major of the Marine Corps and the sponsoring industry representative have presented the awards at our formal banquet.MCAA is headquartered in Quantico, Virginia, and continues the mission of its founding fathers to link the past, present and future of Marine aviation through a variety of activities, media and events.
