Wolfhounds Association

The Irish Wolfhound Club was set up in 1885 by Captain George Augustus Graham to enable the raising of significant worth Irish Wolfhounds. It continues in the present day to propel the backing of honest to goodness breed sort.

Irish wolfhound raisers are the guardians of this great breed and it is their obligation to breed mutts who conform to the Standard of Excellence.

Average Irish Wolfhounds should at present be strong, fit and adequately athletic to complete the occupation for which they were at first raised - that of pursuing wolves. In any case, it is also basic that a persisting and ordinary aura is in like manner kept up. Wolfhounds should be 'delicate when stroked, incensed when actuated' - 'lions in the interest, sheep at home'.

It is urgent that such broad, exceptional mutts stay sweet-natured and kind as partners. Competent reproducers will constantly try to breed from pooches that are sound in both identity and body.
