The Institut Barcelona d'Estudis Internacionals or IBEI is located in Barcelona, Catalonia, Spain. Institut Barcelona d'Estudis Internacionals is an inter-university research institute and postgraduate education center. As a joint initiative between five public universities in the Barcelona metropolitan area (University of Barcelona, Pompeu Fabra University, Autonomous University of Barcelona, Polytechnic University of Catalonia and Open University of Catalonia) IBEI was established in 2004. The CIDOB Foundation (Barcelona Centre for International Affairs) with the aim of promoting advanced training and research in international relations and related subjects. Institut Barcelona d'Estudis Internacionals aims to encourage scientific advancement with advanced research and postgraduate training, stimulating the understanding of the global challenges of our world.
Barcelona d’Estudis Internacionals is located at the UPF Ciutadella Campus and provides many postgraduate programs in English. For example: Master in International Relations, Master in International Security, Erasmus Mundus Master in Public Policy - MUNDUS MAPP and Master in International development. Institut Barcelona d'Estudis Internacionals is an official member of the Association of Professional Schools of International Affairs (APSIA). Currently more than 150 students are registered in its master degree programmes.
The Institute has developed an outstanding scientific production which is mainly on the relationship between domestic affairs and the international dimension into four major areas: Global Governance, Networks and Institutions in a Globalized Economy, Development and Security, and Power and Multilateralism in a Global World. Institut Barcelona d'Estudis Internacionals is currently among the focal points at European level in the field of Political Science and International Affairs. IBEI teaching staff are highly qualified and diversified internationally, with a strong research profile. IBEI has more than 20 doctoral researchers.
The research projects of IBEI are funded mostly through competitive calls for papers from the European Commission, the Government of Spain, the Catalan Government and other public and private institutions. IBEI has received funding for around 30 research projects from 2008. IBEI stimulates exchange and collaboration with other centers and research professionals in order to increase the production and dissemination of quality research. IBEI has also conducted several research projects with international teams such as CONSENSUS, EUCROSS, BEUCITIZEN, TRANSCRISIS (funded by the European Commission), EU-PERFORM, EUMARR or GLOBALDEMOS (funded by the Government of Spain). Institut Barcelona d'Estudis Internacionals has a series of working papers that spread educational papers representing work in progress. In every two years, IBEI publishes a research report with its projects and research results.
